Matan Vilnai told the Maariv newspaper that Israel was poised to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities although an attack would need to be coordinated with the United States. Any such attack would be likely to trigger a month long conflict that would result in casualties – probably leaving 500 Israeli’s dead, he said.
According to a supposedly leaked Israeli memo, it is suggested that the military operation against Iran would begin with a massive cyber-attack against her infrastructure, followed by a barrage of ballistic missiles launched at its nuclear facilities.
Other targets would include military command-and-control systems, research and development facilities, and the homes of senior figures in nuclear and missile development. Only then would manned aircraft launch an attack.
While it is not possible to verify whether the document is authentic, the promised strike against Iran has been an open secret for some time. The outcome however, is likely to be far more catastrophic than Matan Vilnai has suggested.
